STOMACHER

My grandmother makes the loveliest embroidered table-cloths. She never follows the recommended colour choices, which gives them a very vibrant look. Problem is that she's made tons of such table-cloths by now, and she neither need them nor want to make more. But finding a substitute has been hard, since it has to be small enough for her to sit in front of the TV and do it...

I asked her if she just for the challenge, wanted to embroider a stomacher for a historical dress, and she was like Sure, I'll love to!. So I dug out the finest linen/cotton canvas I had (remains from the embroideried pockets she once made me) and draftet a pattern based on one from http://www.vintagetextile.com/gallery_early.htm#bany , ca. 1720.

It will by no means be a faithful replica of the 1720 stomacher from Vintage Textiles. That one is cream silk tafetta with silk floss embroidery, mine will be a greyish beige cotton/linen blend with cotton embroidery. I also simplified the pattern a tad, enlarging some lines and skipping others. I noticed I eschewed the pattern a tad towards the bottom, so that will have to be adjusted, but it's no big deal. I'll bring a colour photo of the original, but she is free to choose whatever colours she like. I love the stuff she make, so she is free to "go wild" on this one...
