It's time to get political

The text of my speech from the floor of the Senate today. I will take a moment to ... well ... pray ... that the majority of the chamber actually moves on this. My hopes are not high.

I know it feels hopeless for a lot of reasons, but honestly, we need your voice. Call your members of congress, let them know how you feel. It does matter.

So I can do what? Preach to the choir? They already know. It’s the rest of this shithole country and there is nothing I can do about that.

I actually saw assholes saying teachers should be armed and that is one breath away from saying it’s their fault they were shot. And I don’t want to send my kids to school here if I had the choice.

Okay, because I've had a day that's involved most of my colleagues playing politics on issues that matter, let me explain how my office works. And for the record, every office works pretty much the same way

Okay, and when everybody stops calling next month, which they will because it’s not the hot issue anymore, what then? Say you’re Chuck Schumer, what is your agenda? New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and yet that guys shot up the hospital a year ago. What then?
