Buffy loved the smell of thanksgiving. It made her feel warm and safe. She felt normal.
“Buffy how’s the peas coming along?”
Buffy looked down into the large mixing bowl. “It’s coming?” She said with a shrug.
Joyce looked into the bowl and smiled. “It’ll taste great,” she assured her daughter. “Pass me that box of macaroni elbows.”
Buffy scanned the counter of half prepared food, spotted the unopened package and handed it to her mother.
“Thanks, sweetheart.”

Buffy stared at the foreign box. “It’s not the kind mom used.”
