Abandoned on 52

Found on Hwy 52, rural Iowa.
This is what I saw from the road.

Quite overgrown. Lots of itchweed. I was wearing a skirt but that did not deter me. I paid for it later with very itchy-burning legs.

This is the side porch leading out to the back yard which was heavily wooded and dark.

Standing on the front porch. The floor was missing on the other side.

The front door was open and looked just like it does in this picture. We walked right in.  The first thing we hear is movement upstairs.  Then determine it's animals; most likely raccoons.  Lots of racoon scat everywhere.

Kitchen. Lots of cabinets.

Kitchen.  Floor to ceiling cupboards. Nice wainscoting on the back.

This is the buffet in the front room by the door. The only evidence of previous explorers was "Nice Place" written in the dust on the mirror.  This house had no sign of vandalism which I thought odd considering it sits prominently visible from the highway.

Love this t.v.

Another t.v. in the livingroom with a big ol pile of poo on the top. oooh, how I would love to take one of these home with me.  However, I never disturb anything and try to leave a place just how I find it - in respect to previous occupants and current owners.

Upstairs hallway. Lots of plaster on floor here.

Pink bedroom. Very calming room.

Corner closet in pink bedroom.

Blue bedroom.  All the door hardware had been stripped from all the doors.  The woodwork is still in fine condition.

Hooks on the wall and birdsnest over window.

Book laying open on floor of the blue room.

At end of upstairs hallway.  I was surprised to see so many closets for a house this old.

Upstairs bathroom.

Not sure what this is.  Old toilet tank?

Upstairs bedroom.  On the floor I saw remnants of a pretty pink chenille bedspread and a cancelled check or note of some sort from late 1800's. I regret I didn't get a picture of that.

Another spacious closet with a window.

Looking out the master bedroom window upstairs. This room was huge.  As I stood looking out at the pretty view I suddenly felt as if I had done that many times before.  Or that I was picking up on the fact that someone else had stood in the same spot and looked out many times.  Strangely, it was, again, a very comforting feeling.

One of two rust heaps in yard.

Windmill near many of the outbuildings.  We did look in all the buildings but not much in there except some parts and some old machinery.

Barn on the property.  This barn was very huge!

Noah, wishing he could have this car.

This house has haunted me. I think about it every day.  I had a dream where I was back there and walking through its' rooms again. I feel so connected to this place and can't really describe why that is.  I do want to go back there before this winter and visit again.
