one of my dad's patients works at publix, she's old enough to be my mother.
i saw her for the first time today since the week before he died.
she went out of her way, for weeks, to greet me and talk to me about HERSELF.
she'd say things like, "tell your dad i think i've finally got my allergies under control".
i hadn't known her for more than a month.
like i care about this woman's allergies.
so the last time i saw her i bluntly said, "you know my dad's sick, right?!"
she said she'd thought he was in some sort of accident/heard about it.
my dad was on OXYGEN.
and even after i gave her an idea of what was going on, she selfishly continued boasting about her own struggles..
as if to think that my ill father would care to hear of it.
mom said she practically ran away from her last time she was there.
today, because it was a wednesday (her usual day off), i hadn't expected to see this woman.
but when i was headed toward the front door, she walked in front of me and i caught her eye
&she avoided me as if she were a person who just realized she was reaching out for a hand with leprosy.
some people can be such fucking cowards.
