SNAP JUDGMENTS made of ignorance - along with the people who make them - deserve nothing more than our coldest disdain. The same can be said of judgments acquired by spite; if a man despises you for your obvius faults, he does not inherit them. Judgments made out of pity, the thought that just because a man is miserable he deserves our respect - are fodder that feed the minds too weak to try to escape their misery. It is a sure sign of the depracity of the world that so often those who make such judgments, out of ignorance, spite, or pite, are exalted by the world. Men are eager to be arrogant of their rash judgments; happy and proud that an opinion of theirs was formed without the necessity of thought...
Judgment without the necessity of thought. It sounds mostly oxy-moronic, doesn't it? Judgment - a function we must perform with our minds - but without thought? This, however, is the definition mostly associated when people hear the word "judge." It's so easy to say that it's "wrong to judge." And, when you're making quick, rash judgments without thinking - it IS wrong. In fact, it's very wrong.
However, there's a flipside - how can you make friends - how can you tell whether someone is trustworthy or not - without judging. This definition of 'judging,' of course refers to the process you and I - and everybody who's got a soul - does everyday - think, reason, contemplate about other people's thoughts and opinions, their views, etc. A while ago I lent my beloved, valuable German textbooks to a little girl named Awbrey Lowe - and she has not retruned them to this day. When I inquite about them, she acts as if HER fault, HER depravity, is MY fault... As if I should pay for her stupidity and lack of consideration for other people - which, in fact, I am. Another person would have to JUDGE the situation, and JUDGE her to determine that he or she shouldn't really lend her anything - and shouldn't trust her as far as he could throw her. This is a bad example, of course - but it relies on facts, and not biased opinions. Fact - I don't have my German textbooks. Fact - I lent them to Awbrey a long time ago.
I know things are more complicated than that, though, and I know that when people say - "Don't judge," they really mean to not be stereotypical. How many people have judgmed me - because of the clothes I wear, or my sexuality, or the fact that I smoke/drink/party and party hearty? Many. But these judgments aren't based on thought - they're based on the exact opposite, the RENUNCIATION of thought.
The RENUNCIATION of thought is ALWAYS wrong, is ALWAYS wrong, is ALWAYS wrong.
