When I woke up today, there was a commercial on TV for one brand or another of the crap that whitens your teeth, and the lady on the commercial said something to the effect of "let your age be your secret". (As if having white teeth will make you look younger if the rest of you doesn't. Especially if you've started losing them. "Look at me, Martha! I only got 3 teeth left, but don't I look 20 years younger!"
I really don't get this whole paranoia about looking old. (Of course, I really don't get the whole obsession over looking hot either...I've seen commercials for makeup with some polymer thingy that fills in your wrinkles. Maybe we really ARE gonna turn into Barbie dolls, because we have so much plastic on our faces. People should take a lesson from Michael Jackson. :P) Why should a few wrinkles matter? Why should gray hair matter? Well, probably the main reason is that people go "but old ppl are UGLY!" So what? I've seen a hell of a lot of young ppl who look ugly. It's not like senior citizens have a monopoly on it.
What I'm afraid of is FEELING old. I don't want my bowels and bladder to start malfunctioning and I don't want to hurt all the time and be constantly tired. But when it happens, I'll just bitch about it like all the other old people, because really what else can you do? (I'm actually kind of looking forward to menopause in a perverse way...then I'll have an EXCUSE for being a bitch! :P)
