Mwahahaha!

Oh dear, the things that we randomly remember from long ago. Those that went through school with me may remember me writing Harry Potter fan fiction. Today remembered and refound the first chapter of one that I started writing when I was 15. I vaguely remember actually having a plan for the story and having part of a second chapter written, but can't find any evidence of it stored on my computer, only what was posted on the net. Was intended to be a Sirius/Lucius slash. Don't think I could ever revive it somehow. First chapter is behind the cut.

Derisive laughter echoed around the dungeon classroom and a slight colouring began creeping it's way onto the face of the dark haired adolescent.

"Ignore them. They're not worth it." Sirius heard Remus mutter quietly into his ear. Sirius gritted his teeth as he glowered at the Slytherins smirking at him from the other side of the room.

"Mr Black." A cold voice halted all sound in the room. Sirius froze, the colour which had began filling his face now fading. "Am I correct in believing that all potion is to remain inside the cauldron? Or am I mistaken?" Sirius' head fell to his chest as he began muttering under his breath, throwing profanities at his potions teacher as loudly as he dared. "Well? I am waiting Mr Black."

"Inside the cauldron. Sir." Came Sirius' dull reply.

"Then what, may I ask, is yours doing all over the floor?" A few appreciative chuckles floated into Sirius' ears causing his eyes to burn and his fists to clench in anger. Sighing resignedly, Sirius responded slowly. It took all he had to keep his voice steady.

"I spilled it. Sir."

"You spilled it? My dear boy! I believe this potion is meant for drinking, not for spilling! Ten points from Gryffindor."

"Leave it." Sirius once more heard Remus' voice in his ear, this time more urgent than before.

"Make that fifteen points from Gryffindor, Mr Lupin. If you feel the urge to speak again in my class without my prior consent, make sure it is heard by the entire class." A sullen silence fell upon the two boys, neither of whom spoke a word until they were well clear of the dungeon by which time Sirius was fuming.

"He can't do that!"

"Technically speaking Sirius, he can. He is a teacher after all."

"He can't if I say he can't." Sirius pouted.

"And you're not a spoilt brat either, are you Sirius?" A new voice joined the conversation as two pairs of running feet slowed and began walking in time with Sirius and Remus.

"No, actually, I'm not James." James smirked at Remus as Sirius picked up pace in a vain attempt to escape his friend's taunts. A high-pitched laugh coming from the forth body of the group caused an entirely different reaction. "I'm not a brat! I'm not! I'm not! I'm not!" Sirius fumed as he turned to face Remus, James and Peter as they joined the surrounding crowd in laughing at Sirius' tantrum.

"Of course not. You're just an unpleasant child to be around at times." James answered calmly after finally mastering his laughter. Sirius scowled and turned his back on the three, stalking now towards the Great Hall for dinner.

"He does know that an 'unpleasant child' is just another way of expressing 'spoilt brat', doesn't he?"

"I HEARD THAT REMUS LUPIN!" Sirius' indignant voice reached them through the crowd of students and ghosts that was now swelling around them on their way to the Great Hall.

"I'll take that as a 'I didn't know before, but I do now', shall I?" Remus asked as James and Peter laughed appreciatively.

"We'd better hurry up. Sirius'll scoff all the food if we don't get in there soon." Peter mentioned casually to the two larger teens. Another sly grin was exchanged briefly between Remus and James before a shrill shrieking filled the halls; James and Remus tearing through the corridors with Peter swinging back and forth between them. "I DIDN'T MEAN THIS FAST, DAMN YOU!" Peter shrieked, still swinging some one and a half feet above the floor.

"Mr Potter. Mr Lupin." Came an accented voice causing both James and Remus to check mid stride and Peter to go flying only to land at the feet of a very strict looking Professor McGonagall. "James Potter. I should have known." She said, shaking her head slowly. "But Mr Lupin, I expected better of you." Remus hung his head slightly. "You do realize that Professor Dumbledore made you a prefect for a reason, don't you?"

"Yes Professor."

"Then I do not expect to see behaviour like that again, although my lectures haven't deterred you in the past. I believe there is no point giving you detention either, is there Mr Potter? After all, it has never discouraged you before either." With a sniff, Professor McGonagall turned to Peter. "How are you feeling Mr Pettigrew?" she asked, although there was not much sympathy in her voice. She had never liked Peter much, and his rat- like appearance seemed to prove to her that this boy was no better than the animal he resembled.

"My arms hurt a bit. . ." Peter said with a false pained expression on his face.

"That's good then." McGonagall said; it was clear she wasn't listening. "It is my suggestion that the three of you take your places in the Great Hall before your friend eats your share of the food tonight. It appears he is always more hungry for the first few days than for the rest of the year." McGonagall mentioned, a small twinkle in her eye.

"Yes Professor." Remus responded, trying with all his might to avoid eye contact with James for fear that laughter would be once more unavoidable. Sauntering into the Great Hall, James and Remus scanned the length of the Gryffindor table in the hope of locating Sirius, while Peter jumped up and down on the balls of his feet in a vain attempt to see over the heads of his friends.

"Hey, Wormtail. You might wanna stop doing that. My shoulder's gonna give way in a minute!" James commented with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"Sorry. . .James. . .but. . .I. . .can't. . .see!" Peter replied in between jumps.

"Then get taller." James' uninterested voice spoke again. "I can't see him." He said, more to Remus than anyone.

"I can. He's over there." Remus pointed towards a slim redhead girl who was deep in conversation with Sirius, who appeared to have gotten bored with the conversation long before.

"Damn that evil git!" James hissed through clenched teeth. Remus smirked.

"Of course you don't like her James. . . " he muttered, the smirk on his face gradually widening into a grin as James' face grew steadily redder.

"Exactly. I just meant. . . umm. . . he shouldn't have. . . he shouldn't have initiated a conversation with someone if he didn't intend on paying attention to them!" James stammered, trying to quickly cover his embarrassment. All this time the trio of friends had been moving slowly towards the place where Sirius and the redhead were seated, James still an interesting shade of scarlet, Remus still smirking, and Peter still trying to see things from his friends' point of view. Sirius noticed the three of them when they were only a few feet away and rolled his eyes at them as they took their seats.

"Hey Sirius. Hey Lily." Remus said, his smirk finally under control but a mischievous glint hinting in his eye. Sirius caught the odd look and knew what it was about in an instant. As with Remus, it was pretty much all Sirius could do not to start smirking.

"Hey." He replied, the light in the werewolf's eyes reflected in his own.

"Hey guys." Lily said, an eyebrow lifted at the colouring on James' face.

"Gotten over your tantrum yet Sirius?" Peter asked in his squeaky voice, his rat-like nose twitching with what appeared to be nervousness.

"Ahh, the rat's nervous. And right well he should be." Sirius said, a vague drawl entering his voice and a look of contentment coming across his face. "You do know, Peter, that out on the streets wild dogs eat rats?" A hint of fear flickered across Peter's features as his back stiffened and he set himself in a position to run if need be. A look of confusion appeared on Lily's face but thankfully the Marauders were saved the problem of trying to worm their way out of an explanation by the large platters along the length of the tables filling with food. "FOOD!" Sirius let out a joyous whoop and started piling his plate high with boiled potatoes and strips of chicken, ignoring the laughter that filled Gryffindor table around him.

"Slow down Padfoot! It's not like it's going to disappear!" James commented.

"Yeah it is!" Sirius responded indignantly, his mouth half full with some form of orange food. James shrugged before turning to Lily.

"My holiday was excellent. I see you must have had a decent one yourself; you're looking even more beautiful than ever."

"It was good until I had to come back here and see your head hasn't deflated any." Lily replied stiffly.

"Aww, come on! I'm not that bad!" James said, trying his hardest to pull the most innocent looking puppy-face he could.

"No. You're worse." Lily said sharply, turning to talk to the girl who was sitting on her other side.

"Women. . ." James muttered under his breath, although still loud enough for Sirius, who was sitting next to him, to hear.

"Don't talk to me about women!" Sirius said indignantly. "You know I can't stand them." James smirked.

"Of course Sirius. I'll just leave you to fantasize about all of the hot guys here at Hogwarts. As long as it isn't me you're daydreaming about. You don't have those sorta dreams about me, do you?" James asked, sounding slightly panicked as an evil looking grin lifted the corners of Sirius' mouth.

"James, my friend, just because I'm not the straightest person here doesn't mean I'm desperate enough to start hitting on my best friend. Honestly, sometimes I think Lily's right when she says your ego is too big for you."

Sirius continued grinning manically throughout dinner while James continued shifting uncomfortably in his seat, Remus and Peter who were deep in a conversation of their own not noticing a thing. When the dinner plates cleared, the Marauders stood with the rest of the school and headed towards the doors of the Great Hall.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Potty and his, erm, kinky, friend. And isn't that a werewolf behind you? I'd have thought you'd keep better company Potty." Peter being unseen over the heads of his friends escaped the criticism which the cold voice threw at the taller Marauders.

"Evening Malfoy." Remus said, his voice unusually cold and near rivaling that of the blond who now stood eyeing them, his usual gang of Slytherins lurking behind him. James was far from being calm but he said nothing; he didn't mind the personal insults as such, but he knew Malfoy had hit raw nerves with Sirius and Remus. Sirius, on the other hand, was ready to fly at the opposing teen.

"How dare you?" He hissed, his voice low and dangerous, his fists clenching ready for a fight.

"Quite easily. You see, people, if that's what they insist on being called, people like you," he said gesturing at Sirius, "get under my skin. Honestly, what is the world coming to? It's just not natural." Lucius smirked smugly as he surveyed the reaction on the darker haired boy's face. Sirius wasted no time in talking this time. This time, the fists which had been at his side flew to the face of the Slytherin, closely followed by a foot.

As his friends dragged him away from the scene before the teachers could intervene, Sirius caught sight of his foe once more, and an odd sense of satisfaction fired through him as he saw the blood now pooling on the floor from the cut above the blond's eye and what appeared to be a near broken nose.

"No one, absolutely no one, will insult me or my friends." He growled under his breath as his friends dragged him through the rapidly parting crowd.
