The first full chapter of The Mark of Athena
has been released on Rick Riordan's website. Be warned that I never read the first snippet of the first chapter that was released a few months ago - so this is really the first I've read about the new book.

Let the fangirling ensue! )
THIS. SO MUCH. I don't trust him at all! He's the worst! Though I do trust him to give his heroes a happy ending eventually. That's one thing I'm confident in: especially Percy, because he's made a point of naming him after the only ancient hero with a happy ending. So I take comfort in that, at least. :)
The shipper in me wants Annabeth's trouble with her mom to be related to Percy too, but I really doubt it'll be something as petty as that.
I think any Athena/Poseidon tension, even if it's just a disagreement on the best course of action in regards to the Greek/Roman drama that Hera's orchestrated, is going to cause tension between Annabeth and her mum too. We've heard Percy complaining about how set in their ways the gods are before: I think it's safe to assume that Athena's going to tend to assume the worst in terms of Annabeth's supposed 'divided loyalties' because of Athena's deep-seated rivalry with Poseidon. So though I think there will definitely be more to Annabeth's argument with Athena than just the dating-the-son-of-Poseidon thing, I think its something that would basically just dragged up in just about every argument they have...

In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find-and close- the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?
