The first full chapter of The Mark of Athena has been released on Rick Riordan's website. Be warned that I never read the first snippet of the first chapter that was released a few months ago - so this is really the first I've read about the new book.
Clearly, what we are all reading for:
Annabeth scanned the faces and... oh gods. She saw him. He was walking toward the ship with his arms around the two other kids like they were best buddies ... Percy looked so at ease, so happy. He wore a purple cape just like Jason's - the mark of a praetor.
Annabeth's heart did a gymnastics routine.

But Percy was down there... He was so close. She had to reach him.

In regards to other stuff:
- SO INTRIGUED about Annabeth's role in this book. I want her to be one of the seven, because GUYS WHAT IF HE SPLITS THEM UP AGAIN FOR THIS BOOK JUST AFTER THEY ARE REUNITED, I WILL NOT BE AMUSED. Omg, that is going to happen. SO the kind of trolling behaviour RR loves. I WILL BE SO MAD. But it does make sense, for the narrators to not all be in the seven, especially if it's like QUEST QUEST ALSO OOPS GREEKS AND ROMANS ON THE VERGE OF WAR.
- Keen to hear more about this rift between Athena and Annabeth. Assuming it has something to do with Percy being a Son of Poseidon, but probably it's more than that, too.
- I want more Piper/Leo friendship that we saw in the holographic scroll at the end of SoN.
- GUYS I'D SORT OF FORGOTTEN THAT PERCY IS WEARING A TOGA BUT LOL PERCY IS WEARING A TOGA

This is an awesome cover and I am loving the colour scheme particularly, except I JUST WANT PERCY AND JASON TO BE BUDDIES WHY ARE THEY FIGHTING WHY?
Having said that, pretty keen for ridiculously spontaneous Percy Jackson v. by-the-book Jason Grace. Probably frustrating, because I really do want to see them getting along, but I kind of love Percy... not getting along with people. For some reason. I don't even know.
