[Things in this special that I love]

Things in this special that I love:

JKR on Lily Evans: "Lily was representative of safety in the way that a father couldn't be, because [Harry's] constantly told "you look like your father", he's got to live up to the expectations of his father, his father, his father, but Lily is something different -- Lily's the person who stood but he cot and tried to stop her baby dying. So, yes. Mother love is hugely important in the books."

JKR on Molly Weasley: "Very early on in writing the series, I remember a female journalist saying to me that Mrs Wealsey, 'well you know, she's just a mother' and I was absolutely incensed by that comment. Now, I consider myself to be a feminist and I'd always wanted to show that just because a woman had made a choice, a free choice, to say, 'Well, I'm going to raise my family and that's going to be my choice. I may go back to a career, I may have a career part-time but that's my choice' - doesn't mean that that's all she can do... Molly Weasley comes out and proves herself the equal of any warrior on that battlefield."

Emma Watson on Hermione Granger: "The kind of teasing that Ron gives hermione for being clever and always being in the library... I've had that my whole life - guys giving me a hard time for doing well and being smart, and so I can totally relate."

Emma Watson on Luna Lovegood: "She's very emotionally intelligent." I'm obsessed with not shaming female characters for emotional engagement right now. Piper McLean, I'm looking at you.

JKR on Hermione: "She fancies Ron but her hopes initially are pretty low. She's a real girl. But she never compromises on being a smart girl. She never compromises in acting dumb. She never tries to make Ron feel better by pretending to be less than she is, which is why they don't get together a lot sooner!"
