“So, is it a girl?” Stevie asked, his arm wrapped around Xabi, who looked mildly embarrassed at the public display of their relationship.

“Yes!” Silva punched the air, grinning like a madman.

“Shut up, you’ll wake up Patricia,” Villa hissed at his husband, elbowing Silva in the ribs.

“Hey, did we miss it?” Sergio and Fernando arrived in the maternity ward with their hands tucked into each other’s back pockets. Villa pretended to glare at them, but couldn’t keep up the façade for too long.

“Silva and I are now the proud fathers of a baby girl,” he said, positively beaming. Sergio grinned for how happy the two men were, and extracted himself from Fernando in order to give them both bear hugs.

“You are now the proud fathers of a very loud baby girl,” Cesc whined, coming out of Patricia’s room and shutting the door as quietly as he could. “Seriously, I had to give her a few shots and she would not stop screaming! Obviously she takes after you, Guaje.”

Everyone laughed. “That’s okay, we’ll just have to have another one to take after Silva,” Villa said, grinning cheekily.

“Alright, let’s go! Drinks on us,” Silva called out, beaming just as brightly as his husband.

--

"Is she asleep?"

Raul nodded, peering down at the newest addition to the Gutierrez-Gonzalez family, a four month old baby girl. He stroked her cheek gently and felt his heart swell in his chest as she turned her head ever so slightly towards his touch.

Having another child had helped to heal the open wound Maria had left, but it had not healed any of the completely. Raul wore his care quietly, carrying with him not an air of solemnness that weighed on him constantly. Guti was more obvious; there was sadness etched into the laugh lines that crinkled around his eyes, and his eyes themselves seemed duller, less piercing.

But then Zaira let out a small gurgle in her sleep, and Guti smiled a little bit, reaching a hand out to Raul. "Let's go open the restaurant, shall we?"

Raul followed him out of their daughter's room and squeezed his husband's hand.

--

“No cell phones at the table, Fabregas,” Villa called down the length of the long table in the back room of Guti’s restaurant, which had become a favorite haunt of many hospital employees after opening three blocks away.

“Fuck off, it’s Iker.”

Someone wolf-whistled, and Cesc had enough decency to blush.

“Hey, where’s Yoann?” Sergio asked. He had his arm slung over the back of Fernando’s chair, keeping the blond tucked tightly next to him. He was still slightly in awe of the gleaming engagement rings adorning both of their fingers, and was loathe to let the older man out of his sight for even a minute.

“France, I think,” Xabi said. He was considerably more comfortable with the way Stevie had a hand possessively placed on his thigh after a few glasses of wine.

“Their loss,” Silva said, giggling.

--

The Stade Gerland was packed to capacity. Karim and Yoann had wedged themselves in at the home end, Karim happily swathed in a brand new Lyon jersey.

“Glad to be back? Even if it’s just for a little while?” Yoann asked his boyfriend, adjusting the hem of his own Lyon jersey.

Karim nodded happily. “I’m glad we did this.”

He’d been nervous at the prospect of returning to France, after the way he’d fled so many years ago. But it had seemed a fitting thing to do on their first anniversary, return to the place where it all began. Karim squeezed Yoann’s hand and Yoann smiled at him.

“Good.”

The whistle blew, and the center forward leapt into action. Karim and Yoann settled back, content for now to watch the action unfold and ride the waves of whatever happened next.
