When Sergio takes his hands away from his face, there are spots of blood lining the creases in his palm. They match the red on his armband, the stripe on the sleeve of his shirt.
The trainers wrap his head up and he bleeds through a few layers of gauze and after the haze of celebrating has passed and he sits in the locker room, unwinding the bandaging from his head, Sergio tugs off his armband and puts it down on the bench next to the bloody squares of gauze.
“You should throw that out and get a fresh one from the physio,” Iker tells him, wrapped in a towel and still smiling.
Sergio just keeps staring for a long moment.
“It’s the same color,” he says.
