short and sweet

best trip to glasgow ever.

yesterday i finished work at 7pm, then ran to the bus station and jumped on a bus to glasgow to see land of talk and the besnard lakes, knowing i had to be on the midnight bus back to edinburgh and back at work at 7am this morning. i think i might be insane.

i was supposed to meet up with my friend hazel and go to the show with her, but her bus wasn't showing up so i was going to be alone for the night. or was i? as i arrived at king tut's none other than mr. tim d'eon was standing outside the entrance having a smoke! i wasn't really expecting to see the guys last night so it was a very pleasant surprise. loel and paul were inside and equally as surprised to see me. no jud though; jerk thinks he is too good for scotland or something..

we sat down and caught up over pints before heading upstairs to see land of talk. once up there i had the pleasure of meeting uniquefergus. if it weren't for him i wouldn't have even known about this show or seen the guys til later in the week so thankyouthankyouthankyou! i owe you a beer or something!

i haven't really listened to land of talk very much before because the first song or two i heard i wasn't very into, and then i only caught their last song when they played in montreal with holy fuck in september, but i liked them much more than i expected. they had a new drummer and it was only his third show with the band, so they will only get better and better as he gets more comfortable. i thought the smoke machine was pretty hilarious. i hadn't even heard of the besnard lakes until a few weeks ago, and only heard a couple of songs, but they were pretty fantastic as well. i was so happy to see the boys i was going out with tim while he smoked rather than watching the band for the first while, but then i came back and refocused and enjoyed them. before i knew it, it was 11:30 and i had to run before my bus turned into a pumpkin.

my 'always entertaining' midnight bus was much less fun this time around. groove armada also played in glasgow last night and i was greatly outnumbered by their fans so every 2 or 3 minutes for over an hour i would hear I SEE YOU BABY SHAKIN THAT ASS from the people in the back. i have nothing against groove armada, and i definitely know a bunch more of their songs than that, so you'd think coming back from seeing them live they could mix it up a bit. they were all drinking on the bus and being so obnoxious the bus driver pulled over to the side of the road giving them the option to stop drinking and shut up or get out. so their beer bottles rolled around the floor of the bus for the rest of the bus ride and i heard I SEE YOU BABY SHAKIN THAT ASS every 6 or 7 minutes until they made their exit on princes street.

surprisingly, today's shift at work was a breeze and before i knew it, it was 3pm and now i'm off til saturday at 3pm! hooray. i think i am heading back up to glasgow friday to go out with the guys. loel was talking about the scout niblett show. i don't care if we sit in burger king all night i am so excited to have them around a bit more. blonde redhead and modest mouse are both playing saturday night, but i didn't realize either of these shows were happening until after the schedule was made up for work, so no fun for me.

and now i am off to watch sunday's episodes of family guy and simpsons. good night!
