Death, Grim Reapers, and the Number 3
Often when there is a celebrity death, people are quick to mention that these deaths come in threes and start speculating on who might be next. The same thing happens all the time at the nursing home where I work; as soon as a patient passes away, everyone starts speculating about who will be next since "deaths come in threes".
The other night at work, I actually looked through the Death Log we keep out of curiosity to see if there was any truth behind this. I was surprised to find that although it didn't ALWAYS occur in this manner, 3 deaths occurring within the span of a single week at our nursing home was not only a common occurrence, but it was also the only number I found to be repeating itself (in the past 4 years, 2 deaths have never occurred in the same week, nor have 4+).
In keeping with this theme of Death and the Number 3, I also thought I would share a story that a friend told me last year: Late one evening, my friend was at home with her fiance when they heard 3 loud knocks at the front door. When she got up to answer the door, there was no one there, so she closed it and went to lay back down in bed. Suddenly, she began experiencing sharp abdominal/pelvic pains and began bleeding from her vagina. They went to the hospital and found out that she had just had a miscarriage. To this day she insists that death had knocked at her door that night.
