Can they honestly not find a way to take care of the lawn that wouldn't cost $50,000?

I'm sure they are assuming they are going to have to resod, and it sounds like it's less of a lawn and more of a parks that's a lot of sod to buy. Plus all the extra water at the beginning to get it to take root.

IKR? Quit using water consuming, high maintenance lawn grasses. Use ground covers, flowering plants- there are hundreds of possibilities.

I find it really interesting that the LA City Council has passed a resolution agreeing with the goals of Occupy LA despite being the highest paid city council in the country.

I'm glad it hasn't been too violent. I haven't been to downtown to see what it's like, but it's good to hear it's so organized and peaceful.

I have to admire them for considering the impact they're having on the environment around them, and being proactive in their promises to deal with the damage done to the lawns once they leave.

And I have to say, I admire the LAPD for using the spirit of the law rather than the letter of it in dealing with the protests. NYPD should take note.

Or, y'know, you could admit that you're in Southern California and plant something other than lawn next time. Something, say, environmentally appropriate, not a water-sink, that doesn't cost $50,000.

Yeah, yeah, anti-lawn radical...

I'll join you in that cause. Lawns in certain regions are just about the most wasteful things imaginable, all for some strange collective idea of what's the only acceptable aesthetic.

As an Arizonan, I completely agree. Who needs a big square of green pseudo-carpet, anyway?

What the hell kind of lawn costs $50,000? How about you delay fixing the lawn until we get the rest of our shit together? Put some rocks in and HEY now we can save some money on the water it takes to keep it green!
