Rosie O'Donnell Tries to Change Mike Huckabee's Mind on Gay Adoption

Apr 24, 2010 13:49

Apparently Rosie O'Donnell has a Sisyphus complex. Sisyphus was the fabled Greek king who was punished by the Gods and sentenced to a life of pushing a huge rock up a hill, only to watch the rock roll back down again. For Rosie O'Donnell's part, the rock she was trying to push was Mike Huckabee, and she was trying to push him toward a more ( Read more... )

Friend #1: Larry King is getting his 8th divorce, and Elizabeth Taylor is possibly getting married for a 9th time. Jesse James and Tiger Woods are, well...you know...Even Newt Gingrich is on his 3rd marriage. Britney Spears was married exactly 55 hours on a whim. There's a drive-through wedding chapel in Vegas. Yet same-sex marriage is what is going to destroy the institution of marriage? REALLY?!? (via many ( ... )

the point that marriage is to make and raise babies.

Fuck that shit. Marriage is about love and commitment, not popping out babies necessarily. smh

What I really want to know is why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label.

Has anybody pointed out to this idiot yet that being gay doesn't make you sterile or prevent you from adopting a child in a good many states? In which case, why shouldn't those children have the benefits of married parents regardless of who their parents may be?

Unfortunately being gay CAN prevent you from adopting a child in too many places. :(

Oh, I know. Hence me saying "in a good many states" as opposed to just leaving it as is. ;)

But, yeah. It's such a pile of bullshit.

What a dumb-ass. He/she is kinda answering bits of his/her own questions. I don't agree with him/her at all but hey.

"why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label."
b/c
"Kids growing up with married parents tend to fair much better in life."

Also, "What I really want to know is why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label."

Really?! Why is it SO IMPORTANT for straight people to have the marriage label and not same-sex couples? I'd love to hear their argument.

yeah there's more to the conversation - a couple people basically called him a doofus. My only entrances were to make snarky comments though.

Yea, I love the contradictions. It is important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label because a) society sees them as more committed and b) kids will do better...like you just pointed out. DUH.

I don't think anyone would support the idea that making and having babies outside of a committed marriage is a good, or even fair, idea.

O RLY?

Q:"why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label."

A: It's like asking "Why it is so important for X couples to have the marriage label".
X being anything from interracial couples, straight couples, different religion couples, etc...

Easy. Because there are legal benefits a couple gets ONLY when they're married. EX: hospital visits, wills, etc.

My question to your friend: Why is it so important to you that same-sex couples DON'T have the marriage label?

I could not agree with the first point more. this so much.

In the end, neither fully embraces the point that marriage is to make and raise babies.

that's so fucking stupid. does that mean that sterile people or the elderly shouldn't get married? or people who choose not to have children? OMG.
