Apparently Rosie O'Donnell has a Sisyphus complex. Sisyphus was the fabled Greek king who was punished by the Gods and sentenced to a life of pushing a huge rock up a hill, only to watch the rock roll back down again. For Rosie O'Donnell's part, the rock she was trying to push was Mike Huckabee, and she was trying to push him toward a more

Friend #1s Friend: I would suggest that both are symptoms of the same problem. The litany of folks you list dishonor marriage by not being committed to it, treating their spouses as disposable relationships. (One of my many critiques of modern Western society, which I myself am guilty of.) The second for using marriage to suit their own social acceptance/"human right" needs. In the end, neither fully embraces the point that marriage is to make and raise babies.

Friend #1: See, I don't agree that marriage is to make and raise babies. Many, many, many couples have fertility issues - does this make them any less deserving of marriage?? Further, if EVERYONE on earth made and raised babies, we would quickly become overcrowded and there is NO WAY the earth could sustain it. I feel very strongly that I was put on this earth to have a child, but I surely do not believe that everyone's purpose is such.

Friend #2: Oh and I also need to point out that you don't need to be married to make OR raise babies.

Friend #1's Friend: Of course you don't have to be married to make babies. But, I don't think anyone would support the idea that making and having babies outside of a committed marriage is a good, or even fair, idea. Kids growing up with married parents tend to fair much better in life. When it doesn't, its because the couple sucks (like Jeni's original examples - not really committed) and they most likely shouldn't have gotten married, or had kids to start with. What I really want to know is why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label.

Fuck that shit. Marriage is about love and commitment, not popping out babies necessarily. smh

Has anybody pointed out to this idiot yet that being gay doesn't make you sterile or prevent you from adopting a child in a good many states? In which case, why shouldn't those children have the benefits of married parents regardless of who their parents may be?

"Kids growing up with married parents tend to fair much better in life."
Also, "What I really want to know is why it is so important for same-sex couples to have the marriage label."
Really?! Why is it SO IMPORTANT for straight people to have the marriage label and not same-sex couples? I'd love to hear their argument.

A: It's like asking "Why it is so important for X couples to have the marriage label".
X being anything from interracial couples, straight couples, different religion couples, etc...
Easy. Because there are legal benefits a couple gets ONLY when they're married. EX: hospital visits, wills, etc.
My question to your friend: Why is it so important to you that same-sex couples DON'T have the marriage label?
