During the campaign, Obama suggested that one simple thing Americans could do to help with fuel-efficiency was check their car's tire pressure. And Republicans freaked, because to them, every suggestion for the common good is a direct attack on their personal liberty, and it's unpatriotic to interfere with anyone's God-given right to be big, dumb and selfish.

When the President suggests things that will help the greater good, that's not a slight against your fragile manhood. I know, you're a rugged individualist. But you're not - you're just a schmuck.

Going back to Reagan, all of our leaders have predictably and reliably told us that government is always the problem, never you my precious, perfect American citizen. You are always perfect just the way you are, like a precious little snowflake. A beautiful, precious, 350-pound, pig-ignorant snowflake.

I came.

Seriously, Maher should just stick to writing op-ed pieces. It's very much his niche.

Not sure if you watch Real Time, but his weekly op-ed pieces are usually word for word his closing statements on the show. It's always hard for me to wait for the show and not read them, b/c they're always funnier when you hear them out loud, but I always cave and read them anyway because they're just that awesome.

lol The first couple of paragraphs are patronizing, but the rest is pretty much right on the money.

I saw Obama's thing about washing hands and such as trying to reduce panic, not necessarily to literally tell people that they should wash their hands.

Rush Limbaugh celebrated this Earth Day by praising coal-fired power plants and the plastic bag, while Glenn Beck cheered a man on while he cut down trees.

Jesus Christ.

Certain people DESERVE to be spoken to with total disrespect, though.

And if you think those examples are bad, you should have seen the folks on conservatism posting about ways that they could DELIBERATELY INCREASE their energy consumption during Earth Day - one poster suggested turning on all the lights and appliances in his house, while another promised to run loads of laundry all day long.

It stuns me that real-life far-right conservatives have actually become even more one-dimensionally evil than the villains on Captain Planet, who were criticized at the time for being too one-dimensionally evil EVEN BY THE STANDARDS OF A CHILDREN'S CARTOON.

So, Bill Maher is saying that the GOP is to the far-right what Stephenie Meyer is to batshit teenage Twilight fangirls, who masturbate over the idea that being utterly unremarkable in every way makes them "special."

I like it.

Well, Meyer IS Mormon, and the Mormons were huge backers of Prop 8, so ...

My God. It all makes sense now. THE GOP HAS BECOME THE PARTY OF SUETHORS, WITH ALL OF THE DRAMA AND ENTITLEMENT AND BATSHIT CRAZY THAT THIS IMPLIES

THE REASON THE GOP BUDGET WENT THROUGH SO MANY DRAFTS WAS BECAUSE THE *ACTUAL* FIRST DRAFT WAS SIMPLY A COPY OF "MY IMMORTAL" BY TARA GILESBIE
