BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the former home of convicted murderer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer to be turned into a vegan restaurant called, "Eat for Life -- Home Cooking."

The three-bedroom, three bathroom home about 25 miles south of Cleveland was recently put on the market for $295,000.

PETA posted on its website "rather than remaining as a stark reminder of it dark past, the building can instead become the site of a celebration of culinary compassion."

Like Dahmer’s human victims, cows, pigs, and chickens are made of flesh and blood and fear for their lives when confronted by a man with a knife. They are also drugged and dragged, and their limbs are bound. Their struggles and screams are ignored as they are killed and cut up to be consumed. Their bones are thrown away like garbage.

The difference is that when Dahmer was caught, his killing spree ended. Today, however, more than 30 billion animals are slaughtered in the U.S. every year in similarly gruesome ways for food.

The home was first listed two years ago before being pulled off the market. Realtor Rich Lubinski said it failed to sell then because of the depressed housing market and its notorious past.

"If you can get past that little problem, you'll have a wonderful place to live," said Chris Butler, the home's current owner.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, it’s unlikely Bath Township would change the zoning code to allow a business in a residential neighborhood. Bill Funk, the township’s zoning inspector and administrator said the building and lot are poorly suited for that purpose because it uses well water and a septic system, and the sloped, wooded lot would make parking difficult.

“I think they’d have a lot of hurdles to jump,” Funk told the Beacon Journal.

The realty company listing the former Dahmer home describes the house:
Nature views abound at this updated ranch. Wooded property with a pond and lovely flower gardens. Granite counters in kitchen. Lots of hardwood flooring. Spacious Family Room with built-ins and wood burning fireplace. Master bedroom complete with fireplace. Oversized windows in Living Room lets the natural light in while you enjoy the scenery.

"The fact that it was Jeffrey Dahmer's house was not an attraction," Butler told WKYC-TV in Cleveland. "I am not a ghoul. I am not interested in the supernatural."

Dahmer and his parents moved into the house in 1968 when he was 8 years old. Ten years later, he committed his first murder there, killing a hitchhiker he had brought home and then burying the remains in the woods.

Dahmer moved to Wisconsin in 1982 and went on to kill 16 more people before his crimes were discovered in 1991. He was killed in prison in 1994 by a fellow inmate.
