I think the comment Jacob made about Jack was referencing Locke's long gaze at the ocean as well as his own.

Maybe, but would Jacob know about non!Locke, when he seemed surprised at him during The Incident?

May be though that MIB looks at the ocean for the same reason, or it may simply be cheesy writing.

Well my theory is that that little kid Smokey saw was in fact a young Jacob. Aside from that I think Jacob kind of knew what was coming from the minute Smokey showed up to see him with Ben. Sure, he was surprised because he probably didn't think Smokey could actually convince someone to do it or maybe he didn't really think Ben would do it but he had to see it coming at least a bit.
I'm sorry, I've had tequila and now I'm rambling.

No, dont worry, I know what you mean.
I did think it's hard to believe that Jacob, the almighty Jacob, didn't see his own dead coming, or couldn't prevent it.

My mother CRIED when Wilson floated away. I tried to comfort her, telling her that he knew Tom Hanks was going to be okay now so he had to go where somebody else needed him. Wilson's like a fairy godmother that way.
My mother insists on calling the main character of the film 'Tom Hanks' (I have no memory of what his name was actually supposed to be) and now refers to FedEx as 'Tom Hanks' as well. 'I'll get my friend Tom Hanks to deliver that to you.'

I thought we were complaining because it was a ridiculously clumsy piece of dialogue?

Haha, this.

Thing is, we don't know how long he was with the Dharma people, and he seemed to be rather out of it, so I guess he didn't last long. That's why I didn't include him.

Well, yeah, it may be clumsy -Id myself say it's cheesy-, but doesn't that clumsyness steps aside if there's actually a meaning behind it? :P

Ehhhh, not for me. It reminds me of people who try to be "deep" by using famous quotes or whatnot and ultimately just end up being super trite and cliched. =/
