Jones wanted to be closer to his American family jazzypom November 15 2014, 10:19:07 UTC
Jones is getting up there in age, so I think he'd have been phased out of Schalke's playing line up anyway. In addition. I think he really wanted to play in California, because he liked the lifestyle there but the MLS and their 'draw' placed him him at Boston. But he really wanted to be closer to his Dad (an American serviceman who left before he'd been born).

Michael Bradley wasn't getting much play in Roma, to be fair. He was a sub, and at the end of the day, you want to start and play - but yeah Canada is a come down. You get the feeling that Bradley is just waiting out his playing years to start coaching though.

If I find another picture of Ikechi Anya (from the game last night, the one I posted was from the Scotland vs Germany game, FML) I will post. A Scottish player in the English PL? In light of the new nationalism of Scotland - Idek if that would be a good look. But the Scottish PL is dire though. It's Celtics >>>>everyone else. I admire Anya's hustle. He's always working, always looking for an in/

Ugh, De Gea. Iker Casillas must be crowing like a crowing thing. LOL. I'm so bitter.

No worries re: the posts. I don't mind doing the football roundups, when I have time. LOL. It's nice to see what all teams are going on with, not just the popular ones.

Hmm, I didn't know that about Jones. Honestly, I assumed that he would have stayed in Germany forever since his wife's German, his kids are German, etc. I was quite sad when he left Schalke (but not too sad since he's always out to injure the BvB boys).

Jones' story is interesting. His parents split up before he was born, and his dad returned to the US. He was raised in Germany with his mum, and it was his wife who hunted down his father, got his details, and got him to call his son. Long story short, it was a love in, and supposedly a factor for him to change his cap for the USA. Through his dad he discovered his extended family and I guess he just wanted his US adventure? I'm sure they'd probably return to Germany in the future, especially for their children's education and such.

It also helped that Jogi made it clear to him that he wasn't going to make the NT. It's amazing that in Germany, someone like Jones isn't good enough to make the NT. Same with Fabian Johnson who would have actually been a very good replacement for Lahm at fullback.

True! Goes to show how spoilt for choice Germany is at the moment. Löw is grumping about how he'll have to change players because they weren't taking the game seriously. He expected a baker's dozen against Gibraltar, it seems.

True. Although according to statistics they had 38 attempts on goal, that 9 more than England against San Marino and 17 more than Spain against Luxembourg.

But I think that the reason that the Germans do well in almost is every tournament is because they take every game seriously.
On the other hand you can't expect that for example Toni Kroos who had a great World Cup, who played massively in the Clasico, to have the same focus and concentration against Gibraltar than he had in those matches.

That's one of Jogi's many irritating habits. He's very harsh on players who don't do well in matches and usually ends up benching them. Of course, some people like the Peasant King deserve it and Shirley who only works well as a Super Sub but others, it's unfair. Stefan Kießling, who plays for Neverkusen declared that he'll never play for the NT as long as Jogi's the coach. He was benched a lot during his brief time with NT and is now doing brilliantly with the club.

To be fair, Kiesling is now 814 minutes without a goal.
He can be harsh on players but he can also have a lot of faith in them, like with Götze or Gomez.
There is a reason why nobody outside Bundesliga fans know Kiessling of course. Not that he isn't a great player for Leverkusen.
I'm not sure who has frozen out other than Kiessling and Kuranyi who had done something stupid.
