Community, last week episode.
I mean, the idea that...
a) it's possible to chart women's periods
b) that you can have reliable information about someone's mood out of it
c) that every women wants chocolate when they are on their period

...piss me off. Everything that upholds the stereotypes of "~lol PMS amirite" makes me fucking angry these days. If you're a cis man, please shut the hell up.

Seriously. Along with the whole mean girls episode, this season Community has really been failing on the female characters' plot lines.

Don't get me started on the Mean girl episode I will never stop. I got into the biggest argument with my best friend because of it.

But bottom line, saying "bitches" are "bad person" and thus "deserves bad thing" made me physically sick. This kind of line of thoughts has just done so much wrong and caused so much pain I can't even...

This. Even though I do get a little emotionally imbalanced and have cravings when I'm menstruated, the fact that anyone (outside, maybe, of the people I live with) could tell WHEN I am thus without me letting them know just because of how I've been 'acting lately' is laughable. Especially because when I'm annoyed I'm annoyed, and I'm going to retaliate. And guess what? Any time of the month works for that kind of thing to happen.

And yeah, I've got the BIGGEST beef with the dismissal of our real concerns with "she's just on her period, leave her alone" and this is not helping.

I find really funny (as in not at all) because the only reason I've every been 'irritable' during my periods was because my father and brother would be laughing at me. You see, menstrual pain so strong you nearly pass out is really funny because, ~lol menstrual cramps. I do wonder WHY I would be irritable. Geez.

Oh yeah, I know. I can barely leave the house. In fact, I missed a doctor's appointment TODAY because I could barely get out of bed. It doesn't make for the greatest of moods, now, does it?

IT'S JUST YOUR HORMONES, GET OVER IT WOMAN. THOSE ARE JUST CRAMPS. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT TIME WHEN I BROKE MY WRIST AND STILL PLAYED THE WHOLE GAME. YES, THAT WAS THE CUE FOR YOU TO STOP 'WHINING' ABOUT YOUR ~WOMEN PAINS.

(My brother once stepped on me while I was lying on the floor because I hadn't been able to get to a chair before a painful cramp. But it's just because of my female hormones that I'm fucking mad)

Yeah, just cramps. And low blood pressure, and exacerbated anemia. Headaches, passing out, cramps, my back doesn't really feel that great either. Just hormones. See and they wonder why one gets murderous.

Oh my God. That's just cruel. Your brother, m'lady, is an asshole. Or at least he was in that situation.

Honestly, it has been my thesis all these years. I don't personnally get mood swing (Maybe some women do, I won't talk for them), but I've seen what the pain and the headaches and just the whole bullshit, and damn, that makes you irritable.

He's kind of an asshole when it comes to me hurting. But it's a family thing. My pains and aches are never real. Sure, if get nauseous, get headaches, am so tired I cannot do a thing, and all I have is my depression to blame, s'not okay - must be something real. If my back hurts and it seems it's actually a serious disease (just couldn't get the right test yet) it's just my fault and nothing at all actually. When I used a cane it was to look interesting (my mom's word).

/somehow it ended up being a tirade thursday

I do notice I get a little more touchy, but most of all I feel like shit and feeling like shit just doesn't make for a very good mood. I mean, I especially tend to want people to leave me the hell alone; when they don't, things get heated.

I'm sorry about your family, then. Because that's some utter bullshit. <3

Yup.

I feel like the writers for Community seem to look down in feminism and seem to treat it as a joke in general. I mean the way Britta's portrayed as a feminist is so condescending and mocking. :\
They often make feminism seem like a silly, girl club kind of thing, what's with Britta and co. refusing to sit with Abed because it's girl thing or whatever. I mean, really? I don't really believe that men should be barred from taking WMST class, but I'm sure there is a better reason than just the fact that those three want some girl's time. WTH?!
Also, despite the fact that they were in the WMST class, there were a lot of women hating all around especially from the female characters to other female characters.

I love Community but that episode was just so >:(

OMG about Abed taking the class ? My friend and I got in the biggest argument. MY POINT IS : Women studies class are 'minority space' or 'safe space' where women can actually talk and share. Marginalized groups can decide to include members of the privileged group BUT IT'S THEIR CHOICE. If they say BACK THE FUCK DOWN, you back the fuck down. I'm not mad that Abed was interested in the class - in a way it's great. But that he didn't fucking back down when people CLEARLY told him that they don't want men to be part of this class... just no. Especially because the episode ended up being about him (love the guy, but in a 'feminist' episode... RIGHT) which is just what fucking HAPPENS all the time in WMST with it being all about the men mainsplaining.

But this episode was not about feminism. It was about... saying women are "bitches" who try to be all almighty~ with their feminism but hate women as much as men or something and just akdsjfkldasjfljasdlfj.

Exactly!
See - that would be a very good reason as to why Abed shouldn't take the class. But the writers (probably anti-feminist) decided to make it into something equivalent of the girls posting up 'no boys allowed' in front of their tree house.

I don't think Community will ever touch feminism in a serious kind of way.
So far, every time feminism has been brought up on the show it's only as a stereotypical punchline. It's super unnerving.

Or make feminist female characters ):

I mean, they were able to make characeters that are not uni-dimensional, which is great. But then they do stuff like saying britta slept with Jeff because she has low self-esteem. RIGHT. And I'm sure Jeff had sex with her because of his self-esteem too.

OH WAIT. He's a man. He can have one-night-stand without it being about his self-worth.

britta slept with Jeff because she has low self-esteem.

woah! I totally missed that part.
Either that or my brain refused to remember it..

I think Brita's the only feminist character on the show, but they execute that part of her so poorly.
I remember in one episode Brita confessed that she's never had many girl friends and it was implied that it's because of her feminist tirades.
I was like...riiiiiiiiight >_>

A feminist character who calls other women "bitches" yeah... I just can't.

I mean, feminist can have other opinion, but that one is... it's never going to be okay.
