Science-fiction programs Sanctuary and Stargate Universe each received 17 nominations on Monday for the 2010 Leo Awards, which honour the best in B.C. film and television.
Both series received nods for best dramatic series, as well as direction, screen-writing, picture editing, visual effects and production design.
Competing with them for best dramatic series is Smallville, which received six nominations.
Sanctuary's Amanda Tapping goes up against Being Erica's Erin Karpluk for best female in a dramatic series, while Heartland's Graham Wardle and Sanctuary's Robin Dunne compete in the male actor category.
On the movie side, Alice and The Thaw lead the way with 13 nominations each, including for best feature-length film. They compete against Cole (10 nominations), Excited (nine nominations) and A Shine of Rainbows (six nominations).
Matt Frewer ( Alice), Richard de Klerk ( Cole), Jared Keeso ( Keep Your Head Up Kid -- The Don Cherry Story), Tahmoh Penikett ( Riverworld), Aaron Ashmore ( The Thaw) and Michael Eklund ( The Making of Plus One) are up for best lead actor in a feature film. There are only two nominees in the actress category: Cole's Kandyse McClure and Excited's Laara Sadiq.
The awards will be handed out over two nights, June 4 and 5.
