I haven't read many myself, but I have read Their Majesties' Bucketeers and loved it. I know it doesn't look like a Holmes pastiche at first glance (the summary on the back of the books doesn't even suggest it) but I swear that Mav is Holmes and Mymy is Watson. I read it on a recommendation and am very glad that I did.

I was weary of non-canonical Holmes stories for a long time but a couple months ago I found The Seven-Per-Cent Solution at a used bookstore and it is fan-flipping-tastic. It's entertaining as hell and strikes a nice balance between ACD's style and a more action/adventure tone that complements the 2009 movie.

There are also some very nice Holmes/Watson friendship moments. It's just a very cool book and I'd recommend it highly.
