WHO: Bella and Jasper
WHAT: Jasper comes to make sure Bella's okay after her near rape incident.
WHERE: Swan apartment
WHEN: During Charlie's graveyard shift
After Jasper insisted on coming over online, Bella shut her laptop closed and moved over to a plushy chair by her bedroom window. She had a perfect view of Reggio Calabria, being on one of the higher floors. If she took her binoculars out, she might be able to spot a prostitute or a drug dealer doing deeds in various alleyways.
Unfortunately after last night, Bella wasn’t interested in doing anything but staring listlessly through the thin glass.
No one knew that she had almost been raped except herself, a random Sicilian, Jasper and Edward. Mike Newton had been her escort to the party, but he was the last person she’d want to share that information with. All he knew was that she was feeling sick and tired and wanted to go home after a long night.
Truthfully, she was surprised in her defensive abilities. She was somehow able to find a random picture resting on the bedpost behind her, and was able to smack her predator so hard in the head with it that he threw up. She was more shaken up after the event than she was during it.
Am I missing the sense of danger? she wondered silently, pressing her cheek against the windowpane. She couldn’t exactly explain why she had been gullible enough to follow a stranger into an empty bedroom -- as Edward had pointed out, making her feel useless and retarded. Her only excuse was that it was her first house party.
Bella sighed and kept her eyes on the streets, looking for Jasper. Maybe he could pull her out of this mood, even though he was quite good at making her feel stupid much of the time.
