I'm actually at the library in Saratoga Springs right now, because it's our day off.

It's SO beautiful up here! I love it. The nights are really cold (so cold I usually wake up in the wee hours shivering uncontrollably) and the days are really warm. I've been making a bunch of friends (and enemies if you count the English one... I'll explain later); the the other counselors are really cool. I've learned everybody's bird names, but not their real names. (At camp we all go by bird names, and our campers never know what our real names are. It comes from 1 Kings 17.)

My grandparents dropped me off at the airport in Cleveland, and they both hugged me before they left. I wasn't really that surprised when my grandma hugged me, but I almost had to pick my jaw up off the floor when my grandpa did. I don't think that's ever happened before, nor would I ever have expected it.
The airport experience wasn't too traumatic. I sat waiting for my flight for like an hour talking to this 17-year-old guy who was going to a music camp for two weeks. His name was Matthew.
And I didn't even sit next to anybody especially weird on the plane.

I've been keeping really busy, doing and learning things. The first couple of days they had us doing all kinds of physical stuff, getting the camp sites ready. I learned to spackle, clean tack, etc. Good times. And I'm (almost) certified in CPR and first aid. I just have to take the written test and then I'll be official.
We have four international counselors; Grace (bird name is Kiwi) is from New Zealand, Emma (Starling) is from Scotland, Shelley (Storm) is from England, and Jenny (Tweet) is from Northern Ireland. I keep telling them that by the end of the month I will have picked up their accents, because I'm cool like that. Shelley and I have this ongoing mock war, and we're always taking witty stabs at each other. It's quite fun. I like her. One night, Emma taught us some Scottish dances. What? Me dancing? Why yes, yes I was. And I enjoyed myself.

One day in the last week, they had to check and make sure we knew about water safety... so they had us go out to the lake and see if we could swim, then they taught us rescue techniques. First time I've been in the water in years. I was kinda freaked out (not about the water) but I survived. Then I went kayaking. Good times!

So I've gone a week without TV, CD's, Internet, electricity... and you know, I don't really miss it that much. Sometimes I do, but the days are so full of activities and lessons and training sessions that I don't really have time to miss things like that. I miss people though... I miss talking to all of you (in fact, I think I'm going to call some of you today while I still have reception).

I tell ya what... God is really doing some amazing things. It's like my whole outlook has been altered just from being there a week. I've been rereading the book of Acts (along with some places in Colossians and Lamentations) and I'd forgotten how amazing it is. I'd encourage everybody to read it... to really strive to understand it.
And every day, I've been praying Colossians 1:9-10 for my life... that God would fill me with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding so that I might walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, and please Him in all aspects and bear fruit in every good work, and that I might increase in the knowledge of the Lord.

Praying Scripture is amazing. And I've been learning so much about God and about myself.

I dunno... it's been cool. *S*

I still say all of you need to send me mail.
