So I don't know if it's been a long time since I've seen one of the older G no Arashi episodes or what but the opening, which was obviously pre-fight song era, was so nostalgic for me that I had to cap it.
So I had all sorts of comments about the awesomeness of this episode and post and then I saw alien!Jun and lost all sense of reality. I've seen this picture before, somewhere, which is the only reason I've not collapsed into a huddling mass of hyperventilating giggles.
Poor Jun. What the hell, stylists???
But this episode. I was very nervous when I watched it, because I have a major embarrassment squick like no one's business. I have trouble watching American sitcoms for this reason, and you know that manga and drama convention where the underdog has to be utterly humiliated as part of the development narrative? I have to leave the room. As in I physically must leave the room or cover ears and close eyes (and be mocked by the Boy), or have my heartbeat go all panicky in sympathy ^^;; All those gross-out and embarrassment-based comedies? Like horror movies to me.
Anyway. That was what I worried about, but despite the potential horrors of Nino and Ohno together with a bunch of tone-deaf boys (most of whom were nothing of the sort, just not good at singing, which isn't really the same at all), they were remarkably nice. I did notice the two guys who got short shrift, an dI wondered if that was because they were less entertaining, or, which is a possibility, the staff filmed all equally and then edited to foreground the most sympathetic and/or most improved.
I liked that they brought the main guy's friends in, though in terms of social anxiety with his singing, I wans't sure if he would see that as support or more pressure.
G no Arashi&hearts So freaking awesome!
So . . . you've embarked on the G no Arashi journey, have you? That's awesome!! I wonder if I could convince the Boy to do an Arashi tv show once a week from beginning to end ^_^ The question would be which to start with . . .
Alien!Jun's face makes me giggle so much. It's ridiculous and I love it. I remember I saved the picture originally to give to one of my friends and say this is the guy you thought was kind of cool in Hana Yori Dango.
The stylists really have put these boys through a lot of shit through the years I kind of love them for it though.
I understand about the episode I really do. When I first watched it I was still in my stage of thinking that Nino was purely evil little bastard and nothing else so I was really worried about this episode. So I was surprised at how tame it was really.
I agree most of those kids just hadn't been taught how to sing, they weren't tone deaf in the slightest. IN regards to the two who were never featured I really think that maybe they hadn't improved as much or maybe they didn't really talk too much, because I know that the staff is usually fabulous at getting everyone to have around the same amount of air time.
I was kind of worried about the whole performing in front of that many people. I mean I don't think I could do it and I can sing just fine. I keep wondering if Japan is different from us like that or maybe they're all just braver than I am.
You should! I vote that you do Mago Mago Arashi, but not all of it is subbed. If you do MMA then you can watch the rowing saga. (I don't think it'll hit your embarrassment squick too hard.)
