Summary: Santana and Quinn met in eighth grade homeroom.
It’s the first day of eighth grade and there are a couple of new kids in homeroom. Mike’s talking to the new guy who doesn’t seem to be saying much back, but Mike’s gesturing and smiling and you know that before the end of the period those two will be best friends. Mike’s good like that. Britt’s not in this homeroom, this is for the ‘advanced’ students; she’s across the hall with ‘on-level’ and you know she got to class on time because you walked her there yourself.
Most kids your age tend to avoid you. You know its just because you’re confident and maybe a little over-protective of Brittany, but the girl’s way too sweet to tell a jackass to back off. Which is why you’re startled when the new blonde girl sits down next to you and says, “I’m Quinn. Are you Catholic too?”
"Why, because I’m Hispanic?" you bite out, stung that New Girl would make any assumptions about you, much less about your faith.
"No," she replies simply. "You’re wearing a crucifix instead of a cross and I think I saw you at Mass last Sunday."
"Yeah," you reply sullenly. "We were there. You new to Lima?"
"Yup," Quinn replies. "I’m still lost in the school. Do you think we have any other classes together?"
"Let me see your schedule," you say, reaching for it. "I’m Santana, by the way."
You don’t know that in one year, you Quinn and Brittany will be Cheerios and headed for leadership. You don’t know that the year after that Quinn will sleep with your boyfriend and get pregnant by him. You don’t know anything about the future or what it really means that your stomach flips every time Brittany smiles just for you. Right now, you just know Quinn’s got potential; she’s got confidence and those honey-golden sweet girl looks that’ll get her out of most any trouble. She might be able to help you put enough fear into all the other students that you and Britt (and Quinn, you suppose) can do as you please.
