Today, I saw someone arrested at gunpoint.
No, I wasn't watching COPS or Armed and Famous.
I was standing on the balcony of my apartment.
I had just parked my car and was carrying groceries into my apartment when I thought I heard a guy yelling at me. The blue-red flashes immediately caught my eye, and soon yell became clear, "Put your hands UP!"
I froze, and pondered the possibility that this demand might be directed at me. No, I reasoned quickly, but now I was curious. I, however, turned slowly to decend up the stairwell. Soon the command was issued again, more threateningly. SHIT, I thought, COULD it be me?! I stopped and slowly turned, trying not to make any sudden moves. I concluded again, this time with less confidence, that I was not going to be shot if I proceeded up the stairs.
Still, I ran up to my apartment, dodging imaginary bullets, and, not bothering with the lock, pounded on my door, yelling for Kali to answer. I relayed the situation to her, and headed straight for the balcony. I could see the cops now with their guns drawn, and they were facing in my general direction. They had pulled over a white SUV and the couple that had emerged were yelling at each other to shut up in hick Indiana accents. They were both arrested.
It was the coolest.
