For my personal reference

So, I am working towards loosing a little more weight before I go to basic. My weight loss to this point has been fluctuating, however I am at the healthiest I have been since high school. My goal is the be at 125 by the time I leave for basic training. Thats a little under fifteen pounds in 3 months, or five pounds a month. I keep telling myself that it wont be that hard to lose 15 pounds, but I haven't been at that weight since middle school, so obviously I haven't been able to do it in the past 8 years, so I guess its time to admit to myself that I haven't really been trying. I know that if I put my mind to it I can do it no problem. I've lost about ten pounds since college already even though I have been half-assing it all summer.

The point of this entry is that I was watching this weight loss show this morning while having my coffee and one method that they suggested was to come up with five road blocks to losing weight, as well as ways to change those five things every day. They are baby steps, and once you have changed those five things consistently to where they become habitual, add another more challenging step.

My five changes:

1. No eating after 10pm.
- I know that 10pm sounds a little late, but its practical for me. I usually don't get home from work until at least 10pm, and usually later than that. my sleep schedule is all wonky because of my job, so its hard for me to eat three meals at the standard breakfast, lunch and dinner time. Because of this, I usually eat lunch at like 5 before I go to work, which puts dinner at nearly 11 most nights. Thats not good. Granted, I don't go to sleep until 2 most nights, which means that even eating at 11 I still have 3 hours to digest before going to bed, but its still unhealthy. One thing I could do to change this habit is to wake up and eat breakfast by 10am, lunch by 3 and dinner at 5-6. If I have to work, I can take a healthy snack with me to eat before 9 to keep me going until I get off.

2. Do my commercials!
-A while ago I came up with a technique to doing push ups and crunches every day. I have this habit of not liking to work out on days that I have to work, which isn't a good idea. However, I found that if I find something to watch on tv thats about an hour long, and do 60 crunches and 20 push ups during every commercial break it really adds up and I still get to relax a little on my day off.

3. Stop unhealthy snacking.
-I like to snack. I eat randomly though out the day. I guess I'm what you'd call a grazer. Thats all well and good as long as my portions are controlled. I think that snacking is ok, but it has to be healthy. What I should do here is keep vegetables like green beans and carrots in the house to snack on instead of chips and cereal.

4. Speaking of cereal....
-cereal is a staple food in our house. I need to get healthy cereal for me to eat like special k or something because this cookie crisp and captain crunch shit just isn't cutting it.

5. There is NO EXCUSE not to go for a run.
-running 3-4 times a week. no excuses.

so, hopefully this will help, but its time to just do it! 15 lbs here we go!
