Work has finally calmed down (I swear if it wasn't the warehouse having a melt down, it was another section's clients and we got to deal with the over flow :P) But it's all calmed down and I've even taken a week off to write, write, write!

Projects:

A SOLDIER's Weapon chapter 19

I would like to thank everyone for putting up with my long disappearance, while I don't have an exact ETA on an update I'm actually now able to work on stuff so, I'm sure that I'll have something for you all soon. In the meantime, here's a little something to tide you over.

Teaser: Beyond Repair
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: Kakashi/Sakura, Itachi/Ino

Summary:
Something's wrong with Sakura and it's up Ino and Kakashi to figure out what.

"So, I hear you were dead," Ino said, leaning casually against the door frame to Itachi's private room in the tiny little tea-house they tracked him to. Kakashi hovered near by in direct line-of-sight from the open door, just in case.

"Hn," He didn't look at her. Just sipped calmly at his tea, black eyes half closed in meditative contemplation. He looked unsettlingly good for a walking corpse. She tried to remember that he was (maybe, partly) the reason Sakura was currently trapped under lock and seal in the Hokage tower, gathered her anger around her like cloak, and stalked forward. She slammed both of her hands down on either side of the delicate tea set laid out in front of him, the delicate stoneware rattled.

"I've read your file," she said softly. And, she had. The whole sordid details behind the planned Uchiha uprising and the massacre, and Itachi's undercover assignment to keep tabs on the Akatsuki. Then he died. Killed by Sasuke. Tsunade wanted to know how he was brought back and how he survived Kabuto's alleged death. Ino only wanted to know one thing. "What did you do to Sakura?"

He glanced up at her, his head tilting to one side. "Sakura?"

"You might remember her: large forehead, pink hair, kinda cute," Ino said. Smiling grimly as she imagined Sakura's response to that description. She'd grown to hate "cute" nearly as much as mentioning certain facial features. "Massive crush on your brother."

She probably wouldn't have seen the reaction if she hadn't been looking for it, a slight hitch in his breathing, otherwise Itachi remained unmoved. When he spoke he tried to appear equally unmoved, and did a damn good job of it. "The girl? What of her?"

"It appears that some one planted a compulsion," Ino said, searching his face for even the slightest reaction. "A compulsion to love Sasuke no matter what. No matter that he endangers her Village, her friends and her life." The flinch was slight, and he covered the movement by glancing down to set the cup carefully and precisely back in it's proper place on the tray. It confirmed that he did, in fact do, what Ibiki and Kakashi had only theorized as possible. "Now, I'm going to give you a full physical, as per the Hokage's orders, and then you are going to let me in to see what exactly you did to Sakura. Is that clear?"

"And then what?" He asked, raising one eyebrow.

"That's up to the Hokage," Ino said straightening and waving one hand casually. "But she did authorize me to tell you that if you co-operate fully you would be reinstated as Konoha Shinobi and the fact that you didn't report in after your little resurrection will be overlooked."

"And why would I want to work for Konoha after everything," Itatchi asked softly. "They ordered me to kill my family. I had to beg to save my brother. And for this I get turned out to be the most reviled and feared name in Konoha. Tell me 'little' Yamanaka, why would I want to go back?"

They stared at each other across the low table. His expression was stern, but she could read people well enough, even the most stoic, that she could see the line of insecurity across his broad shoulders, muscled nearly quivering with tension but held still. The desperation in his dark eyes as he looked at her, she felt her heart constrict painfully in her chest.

She recognized this feeling. The giddy emotional high, the heart palpitations and the damp palms. She felt this when she first found Sakura cowering under the verbal blows obnoxious children, that couldn't see her for the clever and wonderful person that she was. Or maybe they did and that's why they were tearing her down. Then there was Sasuke. Ino felt this way when she first saw him a week after the massacre, when he finally was allowed back to the Academy. Sakura and everyone else thought she was in love, but Ino knew better.

She settled down, her legs folding under her and she rested her head on her fist. Itatchi's question wasn't one that she could answer. "I don't know, why do you?"

She had a Project.
