This was what the class did during APEL tutorial today.

After having almost a day's or 6 hours' worth of classes. I decided to do something rare. Listening to music via ear piece on bus. I regretted not for choosing not to sit with Alicia. Chose the seat that was nearest to the driver and settled down.

When the bus was approaching an area in Bedok, a middle-aged Indian lady boarded. The bus was still crowded by then. She stood in front of me. The lady appears to be someone working in the office as she carries a briefcase other than the bag that was on her shoulder.

She strike up a conversation with a TP student who was standing beside her. I don't listen to music with volume of maximum level so I could hear a bit of the conversation, but not claerly though. I wasn't sure if the lady was badmouthing me. The words that my ears (stuck with ear piece) managed to pick up was ;music', 'earphones', 'youths'. As a person who is very into Kindaichi, I deduced that she was complaining about teenagers always having their ears occupied and not being responsive to their surrounding. The girl standing who had no choice but to talk to her was smiling throughout and looking at me. She kept smiling and said nothing in reply to the lady.

The student alighted and I suffered. The lady chose to sit beside me.
"Are you a tertiary student?"
I removed my ear piece in an attempt to be polite and replied.
She was speaking so softly that I had problems answering her second question.
I answered and asked if it was the answer that she wanted. Guess what she said?
"Do you understand English?" How humiliating. The bus engine was loud and noisy, couldn't you just raise your voice volume a little? Then she repeated what she said previously to me till we both reached the bus Interchange. And I repeated the actions of the previous listener. Smiling as if I have never smiled before.
Don't you find it a bit awkward to discuss the acts of youths with an adult in front of fellow school mates? It's better to be silent about it.

I do agree with her about moving in the rear in order to allow more people to board the bus during peak hours. It always seemed as if Bus 69 was a bus specifically for TP students besides the shuttle bus.

What left an impression on me was her last sentence, "See, they don't to move in but they are always rushing to get down."

Let's hope that I don't see her again in this lifetime. She's an interviewer. Maybe she will get back at me for not giving up my seat. But hey, she doesn't look that old and fragile.

P.S. Mission accomplished! I passed that packet of M&M chocolates which I have bought from Cheers to my mortal at the end of class. My $1.80...
