Finished my first week of work, and it's good! On wednesday, I showed up some 20 minutes late. My boss's reaction was "'ey, don't worry about it, just do what ya can. Oh, if you need to, get yourself a cup of coffee...".
And they have these awesome doughnuts at break (that's right, I spelled it correctly). They have this syrupy sugar drizzle on them and where the hole of the doughnut should be, there's instead a jelly blob. It good.
Lunch there is good, too. Basically, the hotel takes $5 from each of our paychecks and uses it to pay for food prepared by the hotel's kitchen staff. Which is fine, because the food is exquisite! I had roasted chicken the other day, Italian beef on tuesday (so good!), there was Gyro stuff on wednesday... I tell ya, I like it here.
It is exhausting, though. Provided I get a parking spot at the CTA spot across the street from my orange line station, my day goes as follows: my alarm rings at 5am, I hit snooze until it's about 5:40, get up and leave around 6-ish, park and take the train in and I start work at 7am. I finish at 3pm, at which point I take the orange line back to the el station by me, get in my car, and I head straight to my class which begins at 4:45. Class ends at 7:30 and I'm finally able to head back home.
So, I leave around 6am, return around 8pm.
Oh yeah, my brother Joe got engaged last saturday. So I guess I'll finally go to a wedding in a monkey suit.
