Music hobnobbing and dealing with divorce...

When you become a dad, it's very hard to keep up with the music industry, be it independent or on the larger scale. Fellow metalheads ask me if I bought the new Edguy album or the new Stratovarius (I did buy the new Strato and it is their best since maybe Destiny. Tolkki was holding them back!), and embarrisingly I say no in most cases. So hard to keep up!

Thankfully I got to hang out at the yearly party thrown by my buddy Rick Pierpont. It was good to see Rick again as OC is on gig hiatus because their drummer is injured. Also ran into my good friend Steve from Fredericksburg, VA, and another cool dude named Glenn Fitzgerald. If you are involved in a metal band I suggest you get to know him. He does promotional work. One of his biggest clients is Symphony X! He does T-shirts, decals, and all kinds of good stuff for them and other bands. He's a cool guy and a major prog-head. He hooked me up with a whole load of promo CD's from InsideOut (probably the best label in metal). He hooked me up with:

Pain of Salvation's Scarsick (I FINALLY have a PoS album! I hope this is a good one! Gildenow needs to lay off the anti-Americanism though)
Derek Sherinian's most recent solo album
Chuck Domanici's 2nd solo album (which is better than the DT album Systematic Chaos which came out that same year! Awesome! I still think When Dream and Day Unite is awesome)
Presto Ballet's Peace Among the Ruins (prog metal from Metal Church vocalist Kurt Vanderhoof. It's kick ass!)
Two Devin Townsend albums
Dead Soul Tribe's Lullaby for the Devil
The Flower Kings' Sum of No Evil
Thought Chamber's debut

All kinds of good metal to entertain myself with. If anyone has heard any of these albums share thoughts!

Come to think of it, what is the new Dream Theater like? I am going to get it (of course) but I'm hesitant because of the lack of songs. Not much value for money.

I need the entertainment too because I am devastated because two of my friends are getting divorced. They are like family to us. Even though my parents split apart (not by divorce but by self-inflicted death), and I am friends with many people from broken homes, I have never dealt with anyone close to me getting a divorce before. Especially when it is a couple who has a child. It hurts! Love doesn't mean squat anymore in this day and age! It's all about ease of passage and being comfortable, which is bullshit. See what happens when morals mean nothing anymore and kids are considered an inconvenience? Not that this is the case in their situation, mind you, but that is what our culture trumpets and the masses swallow it hook, line and sinker.

What do I do for them? Pray? Give them a big what for? Yell at them?

Let's talk...I need a friend...Where is everyone today?
