Merry Christmas!

We are snowed in! There's lots of ice and about a foot of snow outside. The interstate is closed, so we cannot (and really should not) brave the elements in order to celebrate with Grandjan, Grandug, Andrea, Jerry, Jayna, Justin, and baby Annabelle. My mom, dad, and two little sisters just had our own little Christmas here complete with a delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast with Bonne Maman cherry preserves. My big present this year was a plane ticket to Rhode Island to go visit Daniel amand meet his family, so I wasn't expecting much else, but I received some very nice things! I was given a gold locket, an iTunes gift card, and a set of four Camembert plates, which were my favorites! They look like this. They make me feel so nostalgic for Normandie!

Last night the weather was frightful, but my father refused to cancel the Christmas Eve services. The attendance was rather impressive at both services considering the circumstances! I'm so glad that we were able to go. When we came home we had our traditional Christmas Eve meal of summer sausage, delicious cheeses (Camembert, Gruyere, and a few others), vegetables, fruits, punch, and homemade hot chocolate, which we enjoyed while watching A Christmas Story (by far our favorite Christmas movie).

Earlier this week (I like to work backwards in my posts) I went to Jayna and Justin's house to spend a couple of nights. I now have a new respect for stay at home mothers. I absolutely couldn't believe how demanding Annabelle was! She's only three months old, and so every minute her needs changed. Food, diaper, snuggles, whatever. But what a darling! I just can't believe that this little girl is my niece and that I will get to watch her grow up. We cuddled and played, and she smiled and smiled, and if she cried I would sing and she would stop, which made me want to cry!

Mom and I watched Bride & Prejudice and Julie & Julia this week. The former was really vibrant and cute, and even though I roll my eyes at their poor attempt to make a pun, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The latter was just so sweet and made me want to cook everything! Although, I have no desire whatsoever to cook through Julia Child's cookbook. I could never cook a lobster or make those icky beef jello things! What was surprising to me was that Julia Child's husband was a victim of McCarthyism. Sigh. It's difficult to imagine such things ever happened, but then again... it isn't. Anyway, it was delightful, and I hope one day to have a marriage just like the Child's! They were so sweet.

And now, with my belly full of roast beast and other delicious goodies, I bid you good night. Have a very, VERY Merry Christmas!
