I had a dream about squid and catfish last night. I hate having dreams with fish in them-- they're never fun. It all hearkens back to when I was 12 and I was cleaning my fish bowl, and the fish kept jumping out of the bowl I put them in temporarily. Totally freaked me out! I love fish and think they are beautiful, but in my dreams they are always disgusting and usually dead or dying! Isn't that weird?
Mung Hao, one of my Chinese friends, asked me to proofread his girlfriend's motivation letter to a school where she wants to learn wine business. This girl is smart. She studied at the University of Chicago School of Law for a three month program, which is hard enough to do when English is your first language, and now she's studying business and French language in Lyon. Dang. Her paper sounded very Chinese-- just the language she used and the timidity behind each word. She's probably well qualified for the program, and I hope she gets in.
Last night I received a call from Bernadette Danet who is a teacher at a middle school in Vire, which is about an hour's drive away from Caen. It was probably my third or fourth phone conversation that was completely in French, and I understood almost everything! Of course, she spoke very slowly, so that helped. She said that it would be a wonderful gift to have me be a teaching assistant at her school, but she knows that I am hesitant to do it because of my class schedule and because Vire is kind of far away. I think I'll do it. The pay is great, the need for English teachers is great, and I care much more about being a teaching assistant here than I do about going to class! I hope so much that I get to do this. Madame Danet seemed so sweet.
Still no word on my scholarship. I'm ready just to quit school and be a full time teaching assistant for this semester. I wonder if they'd let me...
Having internet in my room has been the best thing ever. It's especially cool because the thing that hooks me up to the internet is completely portable. I can internet on a train, at a castle, or anywhere else that I want! Oh my gosh-- keep checking back to this LJ for a live Skype broadcast from the top of the Eiffel Tower or something. I should do that.
