the triumph of the american muffin (a memoir)

Jun 29, 2005 14:37

Surprise! I have emerged triumphant.

I came. I saw, saw even more, saw an incredible amount of stuff, laughed and laughed and cried and laughed and got lost and felt like i died twice and danced a lot more than i expected. and I CONQUERED.

i made a new friend, found an old friend, discovered new worlds, discovered new words, experienced DDR, experienced E. Coli, melted on a coach, froze in a hotel room, moved in to a bookstore, moved out of a row house, and i've now run out of nice parallelisms to describe my adventure. so enough with the poetics.
my journey was in short, magnificent, and in long, really really really really fantastic in many diverse ways.
I saw NINE plays and one musical. As You Like It at the Wyndhams Theatre was my favourite, the Tempest at the Globe was my least favourite. Twelfth Night, Thomas More, Believe What You Will (massinger, not shakespeare), A New Way to Please You (by other people, not shakespeare ((this one we didn't end up seeing, but i read the play and we saw pictures and it was a running joke)), A Winter's Tale, Pericles, Henry IV part II (with Dumbledore, Filch and McDarcy!), A Midsummer Night's Dream (which we saw on Midsummer Night) were the others.
the musical was Woman in White, which was Andrew LLoyd Webber recycling old music to make more money, and I thought it was pretty bad, but other girls liked it.
I learned so MUCH about Shakespeare, about theatre, and about myself! who knew.
I don't know how to describe my trip other than the exhaustive day by day account that i wrote in my little journal on the trip. so maybe if you want me to tell you just e-mail me or call me and ask. (caitlin.tweed@duchesne.org is the best e-mail address for me right now).
Sometime this week i will have photos for you all.

All in all I had a marvelous journey, one that i would not like to repeat but one i never want to forget.

and as Shakespeare said, all's well that ends well. Parting is such sweet sorrow. I would not wish any companion in the world but you. Give me your hands, if we be friends.
and a bunch of other random lines i could quote. ]
thanks.

Your crazy traveling shakespearephile,
Caitlin
