Countdown to Christmas: Day 2
I am baking a pie.
No, wait. I went to the store, bought a Sara Lee Dutch apple pie, preheated the oven, slit open the box, mooshed the crumbs around according to the directions, slipped it onto the rack, and set the timer. Does this count as actually "baking a pie"? Meaning, no, I did not spend hours rolling out dough, slicing up apples, et cetera. I've never "baked" an actual pie in my life.
I've also never:
1. baked a cake from scratch
2. made a souffle
3. made anything that required a "sauce"
4. baked anything that required more than 10 ingredients (my new rule, however, is no more than 5!)
5. baked bread that didn't come from the frozen food section
6. used a cookie cutter
7. baked anything with more than 2 layers
8. made anything that required fresh herbs
9. separated an egg
10. baked a batch of cookies without first eating half the dough
The kitchen happens to be my least favorite room in the house. My next least favorite is, well, the rest of the house, lol. I do like my bedroom; in particular, my bed. A pile of pillows, my laptop, and a cup of coffee, and I'm very content. Ecstatic, actually. A bowl of Jellie Bellies nearby is a definite plus.
So I'm taking the pie to work tonight, which is a total cop-out because I'm sure the other members of the A-Team might, ya know, actually COOK. Especially Elca, who has promised up something exotically middle-eastern. I only hope we have some patients tonight so none of us have to float to another floor. It's hard enough working the holidays without at least getting to hang out with your friends. Trust me, floating sucks under the best of circumstances.
