I'm skipping a couple letters but the other stories aren't cooperating.
R is for Ragnar
“Why a coffee house?”
“Hmmm?” Ragnar looked up from his paperwork.
“Why a coffee house? I mean, you hate coffee so why did you open a coffee house?”
Rag grinned at his young, blonde worker. “You are the first person to ask that in the half a dozen years we've been open. I've had multiple people mention they never see me actually drinking coffee but no one else has ever questioned why.”
Freddie rolled his eyes. “That's not an answer.”
Laughter interrupted their conversation. Rag's smile warmed as he looked up at the man across the counter.
“What Ragnar is refusing to admit is that he loves the smell of coffee. He just hates the taste of it. He also loves places where he can take a book, get something to drink and not be bugged for hours. It's the reason this place is so popular. People can come here and waste away days without being forced to buy something or leave. In Rag's mind, this is what coffee houses are supposed to be, not those here's your coffee now get the fuck out places like Starbucks.”
Rag pushed the coffee he had prepared as the man talked across the counter. “Here's your coffee, now get the fuck out.”
The man laughed again. “Yes dear. I'll see you tonight.”
The man leaned over the counter and kissed Rag before wandering out into the street.
Rag turned to Freddie and smirked at the look on his face.
“You're gay?” Freddie asked.
Rag laughed until he had tears in his eyes. “Yes I am. And I'm happily taken so you've got no chance.”
Freddie spluttered. “I didn't... I don't...”
“Sure you don't Freddie. Though since we're on the topic, you should forget about me and ask Paul out. He likes you.”
Freddie startled look faded into a thoughtful frown. “Paul...”
Ragnar laughed again as Freddie wandered towards the wall where the employee schedule was posted. Probably to check when he worked with Paul next.
