Question Time
Two of my friends (well, one friend and one friend of a friend, but yeah) are having an argument that I'm tired of listening to. So, I decided to turn to all you lovely people to help me get them to shut up.
Mainly, I'm turning my begging eyes to our resident Welsh lass, but the rest of you may know the answer as well.
Around here, the acceptable pronunciation of Llewellyn is Lu-well-in or Lu-well-en. The argument is that in Wales the first part is pronounced kinda like a weird throaty ch/sh-ey sound. Which, I can't really pronounce because I keep wanting to make it sound more growly than windy because of the German I'm all too familiar with (not that I'm anywhere near fluent but with half the family being from Germany...).

So, the question is...is the North American Lu-well-en an acceptable pronunciation in other parts of the world, most specifically Wales.
How and why these girls are arguing about the pronunciation of a word in a part of the world none of us have ever been to is beyond me, but I'm tired of them both texting me to complain about it or get me to agree to their side. Which I won't do because I don't know the answer.
