Swine flu is in Seattle!
Okay, the jury is still out on this, but a kid from a school I subbed at Wednesday developed "flu-like symptoms" this week, and was in school on Friday when he was possibly contagious. Now he's considered one of six Washington state residents possibly infected with swine flu (as of this morning). This school is now closed until next Wednesday, and I'm free to sub at other schools to infect everybody else. Mwahahahaha....
Just kidding. I know this is serious for the people suffering from the illness, and those who have lost loved ones, but at the same time, it feels like people everywhere are getting a little too jumpy. Even I've started compulsively washing/sanitizing my hands at school (which I should be doing anyway; kids=eww).
Still, I read an article in the NY Times about the "other" swine flu scare from 1976. President Ford's administration had millions of Americans vaccinated, even though the outbreak was contained at Ft. Dix in NJ. One soldier died, and I think a few dozen were infected.
