Foobar FofR Skin Tutorial

Aug 11, 2009 11:01

I've always loved foobar a lot since i can customize it as much as i like and it takes just a little percentage of CPU usage; and now with these foobar skins it completes my totally-APH-devoted PC. I've been using these skins for a pretty long time and i think some APH fans who are using foobar too may have interest in it.

If you've never used a customized foobar skin before, it will be a little complicated at first, but i'll put everything you need here so that what you have to do are just few simple steps such as extract, copy and paste, etc... If there's any problem, just tell me. I don't know much about foobar, but if i can help solving, i'll try my best. Now we start :

1. To use these skins, you have to use the old versions of foobar, since we're going to use FofR - Black Reflection Foobar Code. I recommend using 0.9.5.1 ver, here's link to download : foobar2000 0.9.5.1

2. Install it. Then download this. This is the important folder where we store the code and all the images. Extract it, copy and paste to the folder you've installed foobar to (it should have the address C:\Program Files\foobar2000). Yeah, i put everything we need in that folder, then the work is almost done.

To make sure it works properly, download this. It contains all the foobar components we need. Put in in the foobar2000 folder. Now open your foobar. Press Ctrl+P, choose 'Display', then 'Panels UI'. Save all.

3. Customize your foobar skin. Go to the PanelsUI folder, you'll see a sub-folder named 'images'. Now we all know what to do next, right ? We'll work with 5 folders inside.

backgrounds : This is where we put in the images which are going to be our background. The 2 APH wallpapers in the preview are there. If you want another bg, simply put it here, just remember to rename it to the correct number. For example, now the bg folder has 5 pictures, the next pic will be named '6'.

s0-s3 : The theme pictures. FofR has 4 colour themes, which are related to these 4 folders. We'll change the default nocover picture by replacing it with a fabulous APH one, sounds great ? Have your pic ready in PNG format, and name it 'nocover'.

Now go to foobar window, you should see something at the bottom says 'Backgrounds' and 'Themes', click them and choose your favourite ones.

Click on the little arrows to go to the next or previous pages. For the background, click the pic and the bg will automatically change. To change the colour theme, you should see the 'Apply This Theme' line at the top of themes page.
Have your favourite theme ? Now remember it ID, which is said at the header :

Go to the correct theme folder, for example your theme's ID is 0, then its folder is s0. Simple enough ? Replace the default nocover picture with yours. We've done !!!

4. Click the little arrow in the nowplaying bar until you see the customize bar. Tick the 'Full Mode' option to make the playlist appear; 'Column on Left' or 'Right' and modify the Cover art size until you're satisfied.

It's perfect now, congratulations ! Now all we need to do is enjoying it ! Feel free to change the pictures, this is my previous theme :

All APH pictures used are Yagyu Okiba's artworks. Remember 'Unlimited' right ?? This artist is awesome !!
Don't hesitate to ask whenever you're stuck. And if you don't mind, i'd love to see your own themes too, is it ok ?? Thanks for reading !
