I've never NOT had access to a computer of some kind ( my dad was a tech guy for a long time) so I've always typed. I used to really enjoy writing letters by hand but at this point I type So Much Faster than I write things that when I need to get something out, typing is my preferred method. I still think faster than my fingers can go but at least I can keep up a LITTLE better. *grin*
Unfortunately, I've also gotten really weird and anxious about my handwriting. In the 8th grade, at the little school I went to in Pattaya, Thailand, the teacher was very upset because my handwriting did not sit on the line - it floated just slightly above. I think that was the start of me being freaked out about how, when I write things by hand, they have to be perfectly aligned and centered and not slanty across the page. It's way too much anxiety over something so simple, you know?
When I DO write things down, which I enjoy for list making and letters/postcards, there are a couple of things I enjoy. I can do calligraphy, so sometimes a calligraphy fountain pen is just the thing. I'm fairly happy with the Sharpy marker pens. And, in a throwback to, like, highschool, my PREFERRED pen is the Pentel G2 - it's a gel pen with really dense black ink, a relatively fine point, and a smooth flow. It's not fancy, but it works. I admire beautiful pens but since I really only like the gel ink at this point....
Haha, I could have written that first paragraph myself. XD Grew up on computers (and had an electric keyboard once, I LOVED that thing) so typing is way faster.
I did have to use a typewriter for a little while when I lived with my grandparents in the 9th grade but it wasn't like I was BARRED from computers - they just didn't have one in the house themselves. Typing is just... it's funny how something so artificial feels so natural, isn't it?
Yeah. And I never got the hang of cursive, so I've printed my letters as long as I can remember. I remember vividly when I had to take the GRE a few years back and they required you to hand-write this long paragraph (basically just copying the whole thing off a sheet of paper onto another sheet of paper), in cursive. I must've spent half an hour writing that damn thing, and my hand had a horrible cramp afterward. And of course, the entire test was on a computer. 9.9
