I watched a couple of episodes of LOCH yesterday. Aside from just enjoying it, two things stood out.
(subtitle) Of course he knows. He just doesn't know I also know that too.
(subtitle) Foster father is the brother of Guo's father.
I switched over to the Chinese subtitles for both of these because I almost heard what was going on, but I wasn't sure.
他只是不知道我也知道罢了。
That's interesting. I had to do a character search on 罢, and I'm still not sure what it's doing. 罢了 can be bà le, meaning something like "that's all", or it can be ba liao, meaning "don't mind it, let it pass". Or something.
义父是郭大哥亲父义兄弟。
foster-father is Guo DaGe blood-relation-father (?) brother.
义 is still kind of mysterious... I'm not sure what the second one is doing.
With Xiao Ao Jianghu it's harder because I can't switch to hanzi, so I'm left just trying to listen (which is probably good for me, but you know).
(subtitle) I don't care if she is from Evil Party or not, I will protect her.
(I hear) Wo buguan ta shenme mojiao, haishi biede shi, wo yiding hui huzhe ta.
(my guess) 我不管她什么魔教,还是别的事,我一定会护着她。
A bit later, a very short sentence that really threw me.
(subtitle from memory) I won't let him off so easily.
(I hear) Mei name pianyi.
(my guess) 没那么便宜。
I've always thought of piányi as meaning "cheap", and never knew it can also mean "to let somebody off lightly".
Is this the first time I ever realized that the 便 bian of 方便 (convenient) is also the 便 pian of piányi? I never noticed that?
