listening to the music

I was used to Mandarin tones. They're pretty straightfoward, easy to distinguish... and a lot of neutral tones.

Cantonese tones are a lot more complex. At least they still feel that way to me at this point. Distinct yet subtle, a quicky melody leaping about.

I'm starting to hear some things, though. Some structures, some words. Some of the different pronunciations are a bit confusing, like 你 being nei or lei sometimes. And the differences between spoken and written language, which I'm still trying to read about.

Slow going, simple sentences. Still listening.
