summer reading

I was going to post something about Kate Elliot's Cold Fire, which I finished recently, but I'm having trouble putting it into words. I think this is because I have trouble talking about a romance, whether in a book or a TV show. I may enjoy it quite a bit (and I did in this book), but then... words.

Let's just say I loved following the relationship in this book as it changed... from the significant trust issues, to the sexual tension, and the moments of devotion and loyalty. Both characters are fun. And I love the friendship, the fierce loyalty, that Cat and Bee have.

The setting is... not at all 1838 Caribbean, unless there was magic and airships there. I think "alternate history" doesn't quite describe it.

I took a break in my Michelle West marathon, and now I'm continuing with Skirmish, which is the first book that takes place after The Sun Sword. Great so far.

I have a microsoft word file with a three page list of books to read. I don't know what order I'll read them in, but these are probably soonest.

Continuing Series

Martha Wells : The Gate of Gods
Elizabeth Bear : Shattered Pillars
Kate Elliot : Cold Steel (released June)
Michelle West : Battle, Memory of Stone
N. K. Jemisin : The Kingdom of Gods

Starting Something New (no particular order)

Sherwood Smith : Crown Duel
Michelle Sagara : Silence
Catherynne M. Valente : The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Sean Stewart : Cloud's End
Kristin Cashore : Graceling
Katharine Kerr : Daggerspell
Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts : Daughter of the Empire
Scott Lynch : The Lies of Locke Lamora
Bradley Beaulieu : The Winds of Khalakovo
Rae Carson : The Girl of Fire and Thorns
Martha Wells : Wheel of the Infinite

Okay that list is better than three pages.
