Sketch Comedy Writing Class- Assignment 1, Part 1

Dec 01, 2007 14:51

Caleb McEwan tasked us with developing 3 sketch ideas and writing 3 jokes, suggesting that we use current events as inspiration for the latter part of our homework. I'm still ruminating on the first part, but the jokes came to me pretty quick. I don't know why, but it seemed natural to write them in the style of a late-night talk show host.

For your groaning pleasure:
  1. Have you heard about this "Craigslist Killer?" Guy hires a nanny over the internet, invites her over for an interview, then shoots her execution style. My question: who was watching the kid?
  2. I don't know if you've been following the news lately, but things are looking pretty grim for our allies in Asia; Russian president Vladimir Putin is restricting civil liberties in his country and looking for a way to repeal term limits so he can stay in power, while in Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is jailing his political rivals and rigging his re-election. I hear President Bush will meet with them personally next week- he wants to get some first-hand pointers.
  3. So the Justice League of America has decided to classify Superman as a "minority" for tax purposes, what with him being a space alien and all. Rumor around the Daily Planet office has it that Lois Lane has "Krypton Fever." (To beat this dead horse further: They say "Once you go Kryptonian you'll want no other bone again.")
