Drowning in Emotion

She needed to escape the confines of four walls.  She needed to be vertical and to stretch her legs.  She's still really sick and she just lets her legs carry her without though.  She's wearing too much clothing for the warm island weather--long, knit pants that ripple in the breeze and a wool sweater that she has pulled closed over her middle.

Alex had been making his way out to talk with Jen when he saw her wade out into the water. He hurried out watching her nervously from the water's edge.

She has a vague sense that he's there, but she keeps walking into the water, getting deeper in. When she gets in up to her shoulders, she drops below the water's surface.

His heart jumped into his throat when she went under and he kicked his shoes off wading out after her.

Jen stays under for as long as she can hold her breath for. When she pops up again, she's somehow facing him.

Alex kept up his path straight out toward her, he didn't care that he was still fully dressed he needed to know what she was thinking.

She doesn't say anything as he gets closer.

"What are you doing out here?" He stepped up in front of her.

"I needed to get out of the house," she says, watching him.

"Next time can you do it without scaring the shit out of me please?"

"Sorry," she says as a wave nudges her.

"At least the water is warm,"he reached out to brush his hand over her cheek.

They've come a little closer to shore, so Jen drops into the water again, kneeling in the sand so the water laps under her chin. "My joints are happier," she says.

"Yeah? Maybe we can look into a small heated pool at the house?" He crouched down next to her.

"Not a hot tub," she says, watching him get down.

[greeneyedspy]

"We could have both,"he shrugged.

[on_jennys_terms]

She shakes her head just slightly, "The water in hot tubs gets too hot."
