Alex had been making his way out to talk with Jen when he saw her wade out into the water. He hurried out watching her nervously from the water's edge.

She has a vague sense that he's there, but she keeps walking into the water, getting deeper in. When she gets in up to her shoulders, she drops below the water's surface.

They've come a little closer to shore, so Jen drops into the water again, kneeling in the sand so the water laps under her chin. "My joints are happier," she says.
