I'm sorry. I know I should shut up now.

But if you haven't already checked it out, take a look at rivier's post on the Torchwood Unofficial Guide. Because (and this is both horrifying and hugely amusing) the buddies of the guy who originally published pieces of LJ reviews without permission in his book have decided to help him out. With predictable and hilariously offensive results ( Read more... )

*goes to read*

*comes back with her mouth open*

...

I, REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

Wow, that's some serious privilege right there. Amazing. We should be honoured! Home of the amazons.

(Dude, I don't want to cut off my left breast. I like it.)

Edited because I can't spell

I know, right? And then another buddy closed the DWF thread, and the new (non-specific) copyright thread turned into the same thing because the buddies CANNOT TAKE A HINT.

I want to say boys are stupid, but that would be rather hypocritical of me. Still. Sometimes boys are stupid.

And don't even get me started on the privilege thing. There's a whole different kerfluffle going on in the academic blogosphere about that right now. *rolls eyes*

(Me too! I don't want to be all lopsided and stuff. Plus it would mean half as many pictures of boobs on my f-list. Which would make me very sad.)

Up until the morons and their hideous gender politics showed up, I was actually laughing at the bad scholarship of the book more than anything else. It might be a gray area about if it is legal or not to quote long passages without asking first, but it is ALWAYS bad scholarship to substitute those long passages for actual substantive thought and analysis!

(Of course, now that the author's buddies had to show up and bring gender into the mix, now I am just enraged by the whole thing. Curse those morons for making me loose my LOLZ!)

Exactly. Until then, it was just fun and wank about copyright. Which--fair use is a difficult defense to make, so whatever. I enjoy that argument as much as the next person.

But the gender thing is just...well, it's both a sign that the people on the defense don't have a real copyright argument, and another indication that female fans NEED a place of their own. Because the boys don't want us playing with their toys, and they can be sort of huge jackasses about it.

Stupid people with their stupid blindness to privilege and sanity.
